My Journey

How It All Started

We prepared for Italy, but landed in Holland...

For as long as I can remember I loved playing/teaching/interacting with kids and just loved how kids would view the world. Everything so new and exciting and just enjoying every minute without hesitation.

Thinking back now there was quiet a few times where people would ask me if I was working with kids or tell me that I should really be working with them. I loved my job I was in but from the day Karla was born I felt there should be more, I was destined to do something else. It took me 5 years to finally make the jump from that comfort zone we all know so well and don’t want to leave to start learning again. Early childhood development was the first stop and the more I learned the more I knew this time round I made the right choice, as every day was a joy no matter how hard. After obtaining my ECD diploma, the logical next step was to do the learner facilitator and advanced facilitator course. I do realize there will be harder days but its great getting up knowing you are changing/shaping a child’s life so they can be the best they can be.

During our journey with our daughter and what we experienced it became apparent to me, the need for support and help that is out there and I want to fill that void. Not only helping kids be the best they are capable off but also making hope a reality. Guiding their parent’s step by step while helping their kids. This I feel is the journey I need to be on, we need our past to prepare us for the present and we need the present to hope for our future.

Those of you that have read or maybe heard the essay by Emily Perl Kingsley: “Welcome to Holland” would have an idea or know what I am referring to, if not there is a link down below, I really do believe every parent of a child with special needs, need to hear this as truer or rawer words I have not come across. We might have been excited about Italy, but I am sure glad we landed in Holland and cannot image it any other way.

My Mission

Going through this journey with my family and making it my mission to create an environment for my daughter to reach her full potential, I realised we are not alone. There are many people that feel lost and are franticly searching for answers. My goal for this next chapter of our journey is to share as much of the knowledge that I have gained in the past few years, so every family in our position will know that there is always a way forward.
